Adopt a dog from Cyprus

Adopting a dog is one of the most rewarding things you can do as a dog lover. Many of the animals in our dog shelter in Cyprus have never experienced life in a loving, family home. Can you give one of our rescue dogs the happy future they deserve? Learn more about how to adopt a dog from Dali Dog Rescue here.

You’ll see a lot of sites online that offer dogs for free or you may be considering buying a pet online, or from a dog breeder. It can be difficult to tell which breeders are behaving ethically, and unfortunately, there are far too many puppy farms neglecting the dogs in their care.

By adopting a dog instead of shopping, you’re giving a dog who desperately needs it another chance at life and making puppy farming a less lucrative trade. If you want to learn more about what it is like to adopt a dog from abroad, read our adopter success stories.

How do I adopt a dog from Dali Dog Rescue UK?

All of our available dogs can be viewed on our Facebook page, which we update regularly.

Please read through their information carefully and if you think you would be able to meet their needs, get in touch with the member of our team that created the post directly. Alternatively, we also have fostering opportunities for families who could offer a short-term home to one of our rescues. Read more about what it takes to foster a dog.

To adopt a dog from Dali Dog Rescue UK, you will need to pass a home visit and complete an adoption form, which will be sent to you upon enquiry.

We will need to see proof of ID as well as proof of address and proof you can have a dog in the property, ie tenancy agreement, proof of ownership etc.

Travel Costs

In addition to the adoption cost, you are responsible for paying for flights and onward travel at a cost of £435. Most of our dogs fly to mainland Europe and are met there by our approved pet couriers who will arrange a collection point with you.

Also covered in the flight cost are IPAFFS and the cost of returning your dog’s crate to Cyprus. IPAFFS are a UK government requirement and must be completed before any animal is imported to the UK. IPAFFS have replaced the ‘Traces’ system post Brexit.

Things to remember

  1. Sadly, the majority of the dogs in our care have at some point been stray or mistreated. We may not know the full background of the dog you are interested in, but we will tell you as much as we can.

  2. Even if you will be the primary owner, everyone who lives in your home will need to consent to you proceeding with the adoption and we may ask to speak to them during the vetting process.

  3. If you have a resident dog in your home we’ll need to assess how compatible they’ll be with your new arrival. We’ll need to ask questions about their habits and behaviours, so please be honest with us. Our dogs have had a rough start in life and we want to avoid future rehoming at all costs. Read more in our FAQ section.

  4. It’s also important to remember that your new resident might not be used to living in a home with a loving family! Many of our rescues are found on the streets or have spent most of their lives chained up outside. You’ll need to give them some time to adjust to their new luxurious lifestyles but we promise it doesn’t take them long to start snuggling up on the sofa with you.

We recommend checking out this guide which explains the 3-3-3 rule and how long you should expect it your new family member to need before they feel settled.
