Our Cyprus Rescue Dog's Journey from Shy Pup to Social Butterfly
This post was written by Tess, a Dali Dog Rescue Adopter from the UK.
Bringing a rescue dog into your life is a special kind of adventure and for us, welcoming Loki has been nothing short of transformative. A year on from his adoption, we couldn’t imagine our home without him.
From Rescue to Routine: Loki's Early Days
Loki came into our lives through the amazing team at Dali Dog Rescue and he quickly became the heart of our home. Like many rescue dogs, he needed time, patience, and love — but watching him come out of his shell has been one of the most rewarding experiences we've ever had.
Thriving at Doggy Daycare
These days, Loki attends doggy daycare twice a week, and it’s become the highlight of his week. Socialising with other dogs (and humans!) has done wonders for his confidence. Every visit is a mini-adventure, and we’ve seen a huge boost in his overall happiness and sociability. If you’re considering dog daycare for a rescue dog, we highly recommend it — the right environment can make a world of difference.
Celebrating Two Years of Loki
We recently celebrated Loki’s second birthday, and almost overnight, he's started to mellow out — well, slightly! After a good run in the park, his ideal spot is curled up on the sofa, usually surrounded by the comfiest cushions in the house.
Building Harmony with Our Cat
One of our ongoing goals has been creating a peaceful home for Loki and our resident cat. While they're not exactly best friends, they've settled into a respectful coexistence—and in a multi-pet household, that’s definitely a success worth celebrating.
A DNA Test Surprise: What Is Loki?
Curious about Loki's unique mix, we recently did a dog DNA test — and the results were as surprising as they were delightful. He’s:
16% Shar Pei
2% Coyote (yes, really!)
And a blend of several other breeds
DNA testing is a great way to learn more about your rescue dog’s heritage, and the results are often as entertaining as they are enlightening. It certainly explains his quirky personality and distinctive looks.
Positive Reinforcement and Parcel Expectations
Thanks to consistent positive reinforcement, Loki has picked up some adorable habits — including believing that every parcel delivered to our home must be for him. With that face, it’s hard to argue.
We’re so thankful to Dali Dog Rescue and all the amazing organisations that help give dogs like Loki a second chance. The joy, laughter, and unconditional love he brings to our home is priceless.
Here’s to all the rescue pups out there and the families who adore them — you’re doing something truly special.
Help more dogs like Loki find their forever homes.
Every rescue story starts with a second chance. If Loki’s journey made you smile, please consider supporting our work — whether through adoption, fostering, or a donation. Together, we can change more lives, one wagging tail at a time.
